Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has called on politicians across party lines to engage in politics without bitterness, emphasising that politics should serve as a vehicle for public peace and good governance.

The Governor made the call during a condolence visit to the family of the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Bashiru, over the passing of his mother.

Governor Adeleke, who was accompanied by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, and other members of the State Executive Council, stressed the need for peaceful and issue-based campaigns.
“Politics should not be a do or die affair. Shedding blood is no longer politics; we must protect people we seek to govern. We should be peaceful in our campaigns. Issue-based campaign is what we need,” the Governor said.

He added:
“I was once in the APC with some members of my family. We just received so many defectors into the Accord from APC. Why should brothers become enemies because of politics? It is wrong. Violence should never be on the table.”

Governor Adeleke described the visit as a symbol of unity, stating that politics should unite rather than divide Nigerians.

In response, Senator Ajibola Bashiru appreciated the condolence visit, describing it as a strong demonstration of mutual love and affection that transcends political affiliation.
“We are all the same despite political affiliation. I look round the people who accompany Mr Governor; we have all been together in one camp or the other in the recent past. We are friends; we are families,” Bashiru said.
