Former Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, was arrested on Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, shortly after arriving from Enugu on a chartered flight.

Authoritative airport sources confirmed the arrest, adding that Nnaji is expected to be handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for interrogation.

The development is linked to an ongoing ICPC investigation into allegations that the former minister forged his academic certificates.

In mid-June, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted the anti-corruption agency an ex parte order authorising the arrest of Nnaji and permitting the ICPC to declare him wanted through national newspapers, social media, and other media platforms.

The court order was sought after Nnaji allegedly failed to honour multiple invitations extended to him by the ICPC for questioning regarding the certificate forgery allegations.

According to court filings, repeated efforts by the commission to secure his appearance for investigative activities proved unsuccessful, prompting the agency to seek judicial approval for his arrest.

Nnaji served as Minister of Science and Technology under the current administration before leaving office.

The ICPC had yet to issue an official statement on the arrest as of the time of this report. Similarly, there was no immediate reaction from Nnaji or his legal representatives regarding the allegations or the arrest.

The former minister is expected to be transferred to ICPC custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.

This arrest is the latest in a series of high-profile cases involving public officials facing scrutiny over their academic credentials.

More details are expected to emerge as the ICPC continues its investigation.
