The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially named 40-year-old Damilola Sonayon-James as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
Sonayon-James currently serves as the State Deputy Woman Leader of the APC.
Announcing the decision, Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said her emergence followed extensive consultations and a rigorous selection process that considered competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance, party loyalty, and the ability to contribute to the state’s development.

Ojelabi described Sonayon-James as a committed leader with a strong track record in public service and political mobilisation.
“A vote for the party represents a vote for continuity, prosperity, inclusive growth, and a greater Lagos,” he said.

A governance and development professional with over 15 years of experience, Sonayon-James has worked extensively in public policy, institutional development, sustainability, human capital strategy, stakeholder engagement, and community development.

She previously served as Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), where she drove initiatives in agricultural development, women’s empowerment, youth inclusion, education, and social welfare programmes.
She is popularly known among party supporters as “Sisi Eko of APC”.
The APC said her selection reinforces the party’s commitment to inclusive leadership, youth participation, and greater women’s representation in governance.
