Fatima Atiku Abubakar, the first daughter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Adamawa State Commissioner for Health, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The medical professional-turned-politician was formally received into the party on Monday, January 5, 2026, in Abuja, where she registered as a member at her ward in the Wuse area of the Federal Capital Territory and received her membership card.

The event was attended by senior ADC officials, including FCT Chairman Clement Oba Ehigiator and the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairman of the party.

Expressing excitement over her decision, Fatima described the ADC as a vibrant platform hosting a growing coalition of opposition figures united in their resolve to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Her move adds to a wave of high-profile defections to the ADC, including that of Peter Obi, as opposition forces consolidate ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Analysts view Fatima’s entry coming from a prominent political family as a significant boost for the party’s visibility and grassroots mobilisation efforts.
