The Progressive Circle for Positive Change (PCPC), a coalition of youths-based organizations in Bauchi State, Nigeria, have declared their avowed intention to mobilize the youth’s demography to draft Malam Musa Umar Yashi to join the 2027 gubernatorial race of the state.

In a press statement by the group on July 7, 2024, it lamented the current political and economic fortunes of the state, which they blamed on successive leadership that has not improved on the foundation laid by the founding fathers of the state, among whom was the late first Prime Minister of Nigeria, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.

The youths who have come together under the aegis of PCPC, as a statewide assemblage of young men and women with a camaraderie of shared discontent with the state of development in the Bauchi state.

The Youths Coalition is actively supporting Malam Musa Umar Yashi, recognizing his potential to bring about positive change and development. They believe in his vision and leadership qualities, which align with the aspirations of the average Bauchi youth.

The coalition emphasizes Yashi’s commitment to addressing key issues such as education, employment, and social justice, making him a favorable candidate for their support. They believe he has the capacity and deep-rooted concern to champion the restoration of the State’s glory to position her in the comity of progressively developing states in Nigeria.

The spokesperson of the group said, “Bauchi youths and indeed, the entire citizens of the state can longer watch unconcerned that the state which produced the first Nigeria prime minister is still among the states struggling for pre-eminence in Nigeria development index and growth.”

“The youths body has therefore, vowed that it will mobilize the citizens of the state to ensure not only that Musa Yashi runs for the governorship in 2027, but will also ensure that it pursues every available democratic avenue offered by our Constitution, to ensure that he mounts the saddle of governance.”

The group declared their support for Malam Yashi because of his grassroot connect to the people and unparallel philanthropy cutting across every strata of lives in the state over the years without any precondition, which the group said they now consider a political IOU that they want to repay by drafting and ensuring that Bauchi government house is occupied by him come 2027.

Malam Musa Yashi is well known humanitarian and technocrat who has worked in various civil service positions and a seasoned administrator at the North-East Development Commission (NEDC). He is also a business man with investment cutting across multiple sectors and has strong interest in agriculture where he is into crops and a mix of animal husbandry.

The statement by the group highlights that their mission to encourage Mallam Musa Yashi to throw his hat into the ring in 2027, is rooted on historical essence where the crop of the leaders who laid the foundation for the creation of the state were young men in their days who were close to the people and understood their needs; an embodiment which they believe that Yashi espouses.

The group said, “historically, Bauchi Discussion Circle (BDC) was a group of northern elites, which was at the vanguard of struggle for the nation’s independence. Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, the late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna, Malam Aminu Kano, and Malam Sa’adu Zungur, who were amongst patriotic leaders in that independence struggle, were also among the pioneers of the then Bauchi Discussion Circle movement.”

“The political activism of BDC members in the struggle to free Nigeria from colonialism is etched in the annals of our nationhood in gold. That is why we recall with nostalgia Bauchi’s prime position as the epicenter of northern Nigeria’s politics.”

The group emphasizes that the historical achievements of its founding fathers have motivated their search for new leadership that can recognize and address the current realities. The aim is to fix and reposition Bauchi State to harness its abundant resources and human capacity, boosting development and reclaiming greatness.

Although the 2027 election cycle seems distant, the group is actively sensitizing and mobilizing the people of Bauchi State to focus on Mallam Musa Umar Yashi. They view him as a promising leader with the willingness and capacity to champion the aspirations of not only Bauchi State but the entire North-east region.

Overall, the group has highlighted that its vision includes progress and prosperity in all aspects, with a particular emphasis on inclusiveness, in the context of sustainable human development.
