Paschal Emeka, Abuja

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba has directed the immediate suspension of Drambi Vandi, the police officer who shot Bolanle Raheem.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police was attached to the Ajiwe Police Station under the Ajah Divisional Headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command.

Vandi shot Bolanle, a pregnant lawyer, after stopping her vehicle on Sunday. The deceased and her family were heading home after Christmas Day shopping.

A statement on Wednesday by Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said the IGP was waiting for the detailed report on the incident.

The spokesperson said the recommendation for the suspension of the officer is in line with the internal disciplinary processes of the Force.

Adejobi noted that the development would create an enabling environment for necessary legal procedures to uphold justice in the case without interference.

“The suspension is without prejudice to the constitutional presumption of innocence in favor of the officer,” the PRO added.

The police assured the public of its commitment to ensuring that justice is done and appealed to the public to be calm.
