Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment (suspended) by a Greek court following a retrial over an altercation in Mykonos in August 2020.

The sentence is suspended, meaning Maguire will not serve time in prison unless he commits another offence during the suspension period.

The case dates back to a late-night incident during Maguire’s family holiday in Mykonos. He was initially tried and sentenced to 21 months suspended in 2022, but that verdict was overturned on appeal. After multiple postponements, the retrial concluded on Friday, March 7, 2026.

Maguire has consistently maintained his innocence throughout the six-year legal process. According to reports from the Daily Mail, he is expected to lodge an appeal against the latest verdict.

The defender was not present in court for the ruling. His legal team has described the outcome as disappointing but noted that the suspended nature of the sentence means it has no immediate impact on his career or freedom of movement.

Greek authorities alleged that Maguire and members of his family became involved in a dispute with police officers who intervened in an argument outside a bar. Maguire was accused of pushing an officer and attempting to bribe police during the incident.

Maguire and his representatives have always insisted the allegations were false and that he was the victim of an unprovoked assault by local police.

The case has drawn significant attention in the UK and Greece, with Maguire continuing to play for club and country throughout the prolonged legal proceedings.

Manchester United has not yet commented on the verdict, but sources close to the club indicate it will have no immediate effect on his status as a first-team player.

This is a developing story.
