Proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja turned dramatic on Friday as two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) separately announced their appearance for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a suit filed by the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The case, assigned to Justice Salim Ibrahim, seeks an order compelling INEC to officially recognise the interim National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and reflect the leadership on its records and website.

The suit was instituted by the PDP Board of Trustees, led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, alongside other prominent party leaders including former Niger State Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu, Prof. Jerry Gana, Olabode George, Maryam Ciroma, Zainab Maina, and Dame Esther Uduehi. The PDP itself is listed as the eighth plaintiff.
Tension arose in the courtroom when Gordy Uche, SAN, announced his appearance for all eight plaintiffs, including the PDP. Shortly afterwards, another senior lawyer, Sunday Ameh, SAN, also rose to announce his appearance specifically for the PDP, creating a clear conflict over who has the authority to represent the party.

The development caused noticeable confusion and briefly disrupted proceedings as the court sought to resolve the issue of proper representation.
Justice Salim Ibrahim subsequently adjourned the matter to June 30, 2026, to rule on the application concerning the proper representation of the parties in the suit.

The case centres on the lingering leadership crisis within the PDP, with the plaintiffs seeking judicial validation of the interim NWC allegedly endorsed by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and formally communicated to INEC via letters dated May 4.
