DDNewsOnline gathered that approval for his removal was granted on Thursday, March 5, 2025, although the exact reasons remain unclear as of the time of filing this report. The decision comes just 24 hours after AIG Tunji Disu was formally sworn in as the substantive 23rd Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A top police source confirmed the development to DDNewsOnline, stating: “The Force Public Relations Officer has been removed this morning.”

The source added that it is not yet known who will succeed Hundeyin in the role, noting that such changes are common when a new IGP assumes office.

“We don’t know who will take over from him, although we thought he would last longer considering his expertise. However, when a new IGP is appointed, it is not news that some positions would be vacant. Unfortunately, he was affected.”

ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, a Badagry-born officer, was appointed FPRO in September 2025. He holds a BA (Hons) in English Language from Lagos State University and an MSc in Legal Criminology & Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan. He also earned a Certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre in Jaji, Kaduna.

His professional affiliations include the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

Hundeyin previously served as Police Public Relations Officer at Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, and participated in the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in 2020.

During his brief tenure as FPRO, Hundeyin was known for his active presence on social media, frequent press briefings, and efforts to modernise police communication.

The removal aligns with the pattern of restructuring that often accompanies a new Inspector-General’s assumption of office. IGP Disu, who took over from Egbetokun last week, is expected to implement his vision for a more professional, intelligence-driven and community-oriented police force.

No official statement has been issued by the Force Headquarters or the Office of the Inspector-General of Police as of press time. Further details on Hundeyin’s next posting or the identity of the incoming FPRO are awaited.
