The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has announced a two-week extension of the ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise for 50,000 police constables.
The application portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, and was initially scheduled to close on January 26, 2026, will now remain open until February 8, 2026, the PSC disclosed in an official statement released Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
The extension follows the receipt of over 400,000 applications from across the country and a detailed review that revealed significant disparities in participation across states and geo-political zones.
PSC Chairman Dr. Solomon Arase explained that the decision was taken to ensure fairness, inclusivity, and wider representation, particularly from underrepresented regions and states with lower application numbers.
“While we are encouraged by the massive response over 400,000 applicants in just six weeks we have noted serious lopsidedness in the distribution of applications. Some states have submitted far more applications than others, which could affect equitable recruitment and national balance. The extension is to give more Nigerians, especially from underserved areas, the opportunity to apply,” Dr. Arase stated.

The PSC assured that the recruitment process remains transparent, merit-based, and free of favouritism, with all applicants required to pass physical screening, aptitude tests, medical examinations, and background checks.
The commission warned applicants to beware of fraudsters and fake portals, stressing that the only legitimate application channel is the official PSC/NPF recruitment website.
The extension has been welcomed by many young Nigerians who had missed the original deadline, while others have called for even more aggressive outreach in rural and remote communities.
This is a developing story.
