The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan has granted parties involved in the dispute over the elective convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) permission to explore an amicable settlement, while adjourning the matter indefinitely.
The three-man panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Biobele Georgewill, made the decision on Wednesday after counsel representing the parties indicated their willingness to pursue reconciliation outside the courtroom.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Georgewill said the court had granted all parties leave to engage in settlement discussions in order to resolve the lingering internal crisis affecting the opposition party. He noted that the case was adjourned sine die to allow the parties sufficient time to meet either individually or collectively and reach a peaceful resolution.
According to him, the development would give the parties the opportunity to address their differences and potentially end the dispute currently before the appellate court.

The presiding justice also urged all parties to be mindful of the timetable already released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general elections, stressing that prolonged litigation could affect the party’s readiness for the electoral process.
“The court has granted leave for settlement in this matter,” Justice Georgewill said.

According to him, the court’s decision to adjourn the matter indefinitely was meant to allow room for dialogue and possible agreement among the parties.

Another Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Musibau Adetunmbi, also told reporters that all cases relating to the PDP elective convention pending before the appellate court had been adjourned sine die to enable settlement efforts.
