The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Idowu Owohunwa decorated 36 newly promoted police officers serving in Lagos to their new ranks in an impressive ceremony at the Command Headquarters, GRA, Ikeja, on Tuesday.
In some brief remarks during the ceremony, the CP, while charging the newly promoted officers to be more dedicated in their duties, said that the Police authorities are not unaware of the peculiar challenges that men and officers serving in Lagos State contend with in the operational routine daily.
As part of measures to boost the morale of the personnel, Owohunwa therefore, appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba to consider and always review the conditions of service men and women in Lagos State, by deploying special reward programs, noting that timely promotion is one of such incentives that’s capable of encouraging them to give their best, no matter the challenges that they face.

The CP who said he was particularly excited about the promotion, expressed that the welfare of the entire police force was a key touchpoint in the manifesting vision of the IGP.
This Owohunwa said the IGP has always ensured that officers with sterling records and personal qualities are consistently rewarded with promotion, as possible, as they prepare them for higher responsibilities.
“On behalf of the Lagos State Command, I wish to specially convey our appreciation to the IGP. In doing so, like Oliver Twist, to also remind the IGP that in Lagos State Command, we’ ‘re not only composed of the highest numbers of Police officers in this country, we also constitute the crop of the most diligent and most resilient in this country. We deal with the most complex set of crimes, meaning we face a higher level of challenges.
”In appreciating the IGP for what is being done today, we also want to appeal to him to continue to give special consideration in his reward program to the Nigeria Police Force to Lagos State Command. This can be done through the sustenance of instrument of promotion, it could also be done through other reward systems that will make a Lagos State officer know he is being appreciated for the great job he or she is doing for the nation in Lagos State”.

In the same vein, the Commissioner of Police Railway Command, Yetunde Longe, who also spoke at the ceremony, said the newly promoted should see their new ranks as a token of appreciation for their commitment and therefore, tasked the officers not to disappoint the IGP for this gesture.
“I want to implore you all that to whom much is giving, much is expected. We normally say the higher it goes, the cooler, but it is not so in the Nigeria Police Force. The reward for hard work is more hard work, you have to continue to work hard, as much is expected of you now that you are at that cadre I will call the management team of the command. You should live up to expectations and be professional”, she counseled.
Also, an erstwhile Archbishop of the Lagos Anglican Communion, Archbishop Ephraim Ademowo who was present at the ceremony, the officers always put in the best in the discharge of their duty and continue to go the extra mile.
The Clergy admonished the burgeoning ones and those expecting promotion to put God first and discharge their duties with firmness and fairness, saying those qualities will surely earn them honor in due season.
