Cristiano Ronaldo has secured a major legal victory against his former club Juventus after a Turin labour court ruled on Friday, January 17, 2026, that the Italian giants are not entitled to recover €9.8 million in wages previously paid to the Portuguese superstar.
The decision brings an end to a long-running dispute stemming from Juventus’ 2022 decision to terminate Ronaldo’s contract amid the club’s financial crisis and the “Plusvalenze” (capital gains) scandal.
Juventus had sought to claw back a portion of Ronaldo’s salary paid during the 2020–2022 period, arguing that the payments were linked to inflated player valuations and irregular accounting practices under the previous management.
The court, however, sided with Ronaldo, ruling that the payments were legitimate under the terms of his contract and that Juventus had no legal basis to demand repayment. The judge stated that the club’s internal accounting issues could not retroactively affect Ronaldo’s earned wages.
Ronaldo, who played for Juventus from 2018 to 2022, earning over €31 million per season at his peak, welcomed the verdict through his representatives: “Justice has prevailed. I always honoured my contracts and performed at the highest level. This ruling confirms what I knew all along.”

The case is one of several legal battles Juventus has faced since the 2022–2023 financial scandals that led to points deductions, expulsions from European competitions, and the resignation of the Agnelli family board.
Ronaldo, currently with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and chasing the 1,000-goal milestone, has now cleared another off-field hurdle as he prepares for the 2026 World Cup with Portugal.
