NOLLYWOOD LOSES ICON AS VETERAN ACTOR OLU JACOBS PASSES ON
Veteran actor Olu Jacobs has passed on after decades of service to stage and screen. He was widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most respected actors with a career that started in theatre in England, moved through British television and international films, before returning to become a dominant force in Nigerian cinema. He featured in hundreds of Nigerian movies and mentored generations of actors. Family sources confirmed his passing yesterday evening. The Federal Government, Lagos State Government and Actors Guild of Nigeria have all issued condolence messages describing him as a cultural treasure whose legacy will live on through his works. His wife Joke Silva and family have asked for privacy at this time.
NURTW DISTANCES SELF FROM SLAIN OSUN TRANSPORT CHIEFTAIN
The National Union of Road Transport Workers has formally distanced itself from Olamilekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, who was murdered in Osun State over the weekend. In a statement released last night, the national leadership of the union said Oyeyemi was not an executive member or office holder of the union at state or national level. The union condemned the gruesome killing and the subsequent attack on medical staff at Osun State University Teaching Hospital where his corpse was taken. Police in Osun say investigation has commenced and some persons have been invited for questioning. The state government also called for calm.
DANGOTE ASSURES SMALL INVESTORS OF PRIORITY IN REFINERY IPO
Aliko Dangote has assured retail and small investors that they will get priority allocation in the ongoing Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Initial Public Offering. Speaking during an investor forum last night, Dangote said the refinery project was built by Nigerians and must be owned by Nigerians. He added that he may offer additional shares if demand exceeds supply to ensure no small investor is left behind. The assurance has triggered renewed excitement among market participants. Thousands of investors have been besieging banks and stockbroking firms to subscribe to the offer. The Securities and Exchange Commission has restated that only approved channels should be used.

FG ISSUES NEW POWER SECTOR BONDS TO SETTLE GENCOS DEBT
The Federal Government has issued a fresh batch of bonds under its Power Sector Multi-Instrument Issuance Programme to settle verified debts owed to electricity generation companies. The Series Two issuance brings the total amount raised so far to over a trillion naira. Officials say the bonds comprise both cash bonds raised from the capital market and non cash bonds allotted to participating generation companies. The Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, said the move is not just about settling historical debts but about restoring financial confidence, liquidity and sustainability to the electricity supply industry. Eleven generation companies participated in this phase compared to fewer in the first phase.

YAYI THREATENS LEGAL ACTION OVER STATE OF ORIGIN ALLEGATIONS
Senator Solomon Adeola, the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State, popularly called Yayi, has threatened legal action against two political figures over allegations concerning his state of origin. The threat followed comments by former Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello who claimed she has documents, including burial programme with Oriki, contradicting his Yewa origin. Adeola’s media handlers said the claims are false and defamatory and that traditional rulers including the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, have publicly affirmed him as Aremo of Yewaland. The Ogun West Concerned Stakeholders have also responded with a press statement challenging him to show his first INEC form.
FORMER NAVAL OFFICER KILLED FIGHTING FOR RUSSIA IN UKRAINE
Former Nigerian Navy officer Ayebusiwa Olabode Victor has been confirmed dead while fighting for Russia in Ukraine. He was said to have been recruited for a purported security job in Russia despite warnings from the Federal Government against such enlistment. Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence confirmed he was killed fighting near Hrafske in the Kharkiv region. The Opobo Council of Chiefs has assured residents and visitors of adequate security ahead of the coronation of the new Amanyanabo and Treaty King of Opobo Kingdom, King Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja, Jeki the Sixth. The council said all traditional rites have been concluded and security agencies have been mobilized to ensure a peaceful ceremony.
