After he was sworn-in for his second term as 47th president of the United States of America on Jan. 20, Donald J Trump wasted no time getting to work on one of his top campaign promises to repel illegal immigration into the country. He immediately shut down Biden’s controversial border policies and restoring law and order to America’s immigration system.

At exactly 12 p.m. Eastern Time—coinciding with Trump’s swearing-in—the infamous CBP One App was officially shut down, leaving thousands of would-be border crossers in tears as their scheduled appointments to enter the U.S. were abruptly canceled. It’s official. The era of open borders is over.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed that the App, which had allowed nearly a million migrants to flood into the country since its launch in 2023, was taken offline immediately following the inauguration. The Biden-era program, initially pitched as a way to “discourage illegal immigration,” instead became a massive backdoor for unchecked migration. Under the program, asylum seekers from across the globe—many of whom don’t even meet the basic criteria for asylum—were funneled into the U.S. by the tens of thousands each month.

Sequel, a footage from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, captured the emotional fallout. Migrants who had been counting on their pre-scheduled appointments via the App were seen breaking down in tears after learning their entries had been scrapped. The reality is, Biden’s immigration policies turned the southern border into an open invitation for millions, with over 10 million illegal crossings during his presidency—many coming from far-flung nations like Africa and the Middle East. Under international law, asylum seekers are required to apply for protection in the first safe country they enter, not shop around for the best benefits package in the U.S. But under Biden? That little detail was conveniently ignored.

Trump’s crackdown isn’t just limited to shutting down apps. Border Patrol agents were immediately mobilized to close ports of entry along the southern border, including in El Paso, where personnel in riot gear warned migrants that crossing illegally would result in “arrest, prosecution, and possible application of force.” And Trump’s just getting started.

In his inaugural address, Trump vowed to reinstate critical border security measures, including Remain in Mexico—requiring asylum seekers to wait outside the U.S. while their cases are processed—and Title 42, which allows authorities to turn migrants away to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
