The Command labeled the publication outdated and misleading, as it was reportedly written in July 2024 but published six months later without reflecting current developments.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, highlighted statistical evidence to counter the claims, emphasizing that Lagos State was recently recognized as the safest state in Nigeria. This reputation was further reinforced during the December 2024 festive season, which saw an influx of over 500,000 visitors, 90% of whom remained in the state, with reports of near-zero crime incidents.

The Command credited the CCTV cameras installed by the Lagos State government for significantly enhancing security. According to Hundeyin, these cameras have been instrumental in identifying and apprehending potential offenders before crimes could be executed, though many of these successes remain unreported.

Commissioner of Police CP Olanrewaju Ishola criticized the Guardian Newspaper for its “ill-thought-out” publication, warning that such articles could incite unnecessary fear among residents. He assured the public of the Command’s readiness to safeguard lives and property, citing the deployment of comprehensive resources for maintaining peace and security in the state.

The Command encouraged residents and visitors to disregard the publication, assuring them that Lagos remains a safe environment for lawful activities. CP Ishola reiterated the Police Command’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of everyone in the state.
