Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has launched Grand Challenges Nigeria (GCNg), a national innovation program aimed at transforming Nigeria’s healthcare system through locally-developed solutions. This initiative is part of the global Grand Challenges network and will initially focus on addressing maternal and child health challenges.

At the launching, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji Chairman Board of Trustees, Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed that the National Grand Challenges was a Project that aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s eight-point agenda, emphasizing innovation to drive prosperity and growth. indigenous initiative of the renewed healthcare agenda of the president Tinubu-led government.
The program aims to promote groundbreaking research, build local expertise, form strategic partnerships, and engage communities in co-creating culturally relevant solutions. It will integrate with existing government healthcare initiatives, including the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative and the Nutrition 774 program.
