The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has suffered a significant setback following the resignation of Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole (JP), the party’s former Publicity Secretary and Director of Media and Communication.
In a resignation letter dated May 20, 2026, issued from his residence in Ipokia, Bankole described his exit as a “difficult and painful” decision after over two decades of service to the party, which began in 2002.

Bankole cited the drastic decline in the PDP’s political influence and relevance as the major reason for his departure. He accused the current leadership of allowing the party to become “a mere support group for the ruling APC,” describing it as a “thoroughly dilapidated vehicle” that no longer aligns with his political aspirations.
“Political events in the last one year have reduced the PDP to a mere support group for the ruling APC,” Bankole stated.
Despite his grievances, he took time to acknowledge key leaders who shaped his journey. He showered praises on Hon. Dr. Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu (LADO), describing him as a leader of “uncommon courage, resilience, and steadfast dedication” to the people of Ogun State.

He also commended Omo’ba Dr. Sunday Solarin, calling him a “cerebral leader” and a “priceless asset to Ogun State,” while appreciating the Directorate of Media and Communication for their commitment over the years.
On his next political move, Bankole made it clear that his political career is far from over. He said he is currently engaged in deep consultations with family and associates before announcing his new political direction.
“Political idleness is a luxury I cannot afford at this stage,” he noted. “I shall make my next political habitat known to the general public as soon as I complete consultations with my family and associates.”
