Four persons have been confirmed dead following a tragic road traffic accident on the Ijebu-Ode–Ore expressway in Ogun State late Monday night.

The crash, which involved a white Toyota Hiace bus and a blue MAN Diesel truck belonging to construction firm Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, occurred around 11:16 p.m. at the Ijebu-Imushin axis.

According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), all four occupants of the bus two men and two women died instantly upon collision.

Preliminary investigations revealed that excessive speeding was a key factor in the collision. The truck, which was being towed at the time, became a hazard after the towing chain snapped, leaving it stationary on the road.

“The speeding Toyota Hiace bus rammed into the stranded truck, resulting in the fatal crash,” the FRSC stated, noting that the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene shortly after the incident.

Emergency responders arrived within eight minutes, and the bodies were evacuated to the State Hospital Mortuary in Ijebu-Ode.

The Nigeria Police Force, Imushin Division, has taken custody of the vehicles involved, and investigations are ongoing.

Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin of the FRSC urged motorists to observe speed limits, especially at night, and ensure that towing equipment is properly maintained, stressing that adherence to road safety regulations is critical to preventing avoidable loss of lives.
