A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called on the United States government to investigate and impose sanctions on the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over comments he described as anti-democratic. Frank made the call while reacting to remarks allegedly made by Gbajabiamila during a social event, where he was quoted as making comments perceived to encourage divisions within opposition parties.
In a statement, Frank described the remarks as “reckless” and potentially harmful to Nigeria’s democratic system, arguing that they raise concerns about the role of government officials in the internal affairs of opposition parties.
“Your statement, as Chief of Staff, raises serious concerns about the determination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to undermine democratic principles,” Frank said.

He further argued that the comments could be interpreted as an attempt to influence political alignments and weaken opposition structures, warning that such actions, if unchecked, may erode public confidence in democratic institutions. Frank also raised concerns about the perceived implications for judicial independence, suggesting that the remarks could create doubts about neutrality in ongoing or future political disputes.
Calling for accountability, the political activist urged Gbajabiamila to resign, stating that public officials must exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law in both conduct and public statements.
“If such a statement were made in the United States, the official involved would have resigned forthwith,” he added.

Frank disclosed plans to formally petition the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, urging American authorities to review the matter, including any related activities he believes may warrant scrutiny. The development comes amid broader concerns about the stability of Nigeria’s multiparty system, as political tensions rise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of filing this report, Femi Gbajabiamila has not publicly responded to the allegations.
