In a bid to bolster road traffic and safety rule compliance, the Kwara State government has made significant investments in its transportation infrastructure and administration.

This was demonstrated by the Hon. Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo who officially handed over 10 brand new motorbikes and two Hilux vans to the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) during a ceremony held in Ilorin, on Tuesday.

Hon. Olododo, in his remarks, applauded the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his unwavering commitment towards improving the workforce efficiency of Vehicle Insoection Officers (VIOs) which has led to enhanced performance and productivity in road traffic safety across the State.

He emphasized the importance of using the new motorbikes and Hilux vans to improve road traffic law enforcement which will enhance safety of road users and revenue generation for the state government, while also ensuring that vehicles plying Kwara roads are certified to be road worthy.

The Hon. Commissioner further stressed that this recent acquisition is within the approved procurement of 10 motorbikes and three Hilux Vans for the agency.

While commending the State Governor for breaking the long years of abandonment of empowering VIOs in Nigeria, Amb. Fidelis Nnadi who is the Executive Director Accident Prevention and Rescue Initiative and Consultant to the National body of VIOs on Public Affairs Advocacy appeals to other States to emulate the Governor of Kwara State to also improve their respective agency for the interest of road user safety in Nigeria.

“The Governor should however not relent in sustaining this development as road traffic safety is a continuous investment,” he advised.
