President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially swore in Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello as the new Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Wednesday.

This followed the earlier confirmation of his appointment by the 10th Senate in July, under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Bello’s appointment aligns with Section 154 of the Nigerian Constitution (1999, as amended).

The confirmation came after the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, chaired by Senator Neda Bernards Imasuen (representing Edo South), submitted its report endorsing Bello for the position.

The Code of Conduct Bureau is pivotal in promoting transparency and accountability among public officials in Nigeria.

The CCB has its beginning when General Murtala Muhammed and General Olusegun Obasnjo regime (1975 -1979) set up investigation Bureau and Special Tribunals to handle corruption charges in Nigeria.

After subsequent enabling laws and ratifications, the Bureau was hoisted with a mandate to establish and maintain a high standard of public morality in the conduct of government business and to ensure that the actions and behavior of public officers conform to the highest standards of public morality and accountability.
