Lawmaker Calls for Implementation of Senate Resolution on Atala Marginal Field

The lawmaker representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency, Hon. Agbedi, Yettiemone Frederick has called for the implementation of the resolution of the Senate on the disputed Atala Marginal field.

The lawmaker who made the call on Wednesday during a press conference in Abuja, also commended the Senate Committee on Ethics and Petitions as well as the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and other Senators for ensuring that justice was served, while the tussle for the oil field lasted.

“| wish to on behalf of my people convey our Sincere commendation to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Petitions and Specifically the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan Ph.D. and the entire Senate for standing up to what is right and restoring hope as Senate of the people.

“The issue of the Atata Marginal Field dispute was a sore narrative in the history of the oil industry in Nigeria.

“Hence we are so happy that thorough investigation has exposed the ills of a demonic deal.

He equally thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governor of Bayelsa State for their unrelenting efforts in ensuring that justice was served.

“This is because an injustice to Bayelsa State, the Jerusalem of Ijaw is an injustice to Ijaw Nation and hence, all stood in defense of the restoration of the field.

“This commendation is borne out of my sincere conviction and sincere belief that the decision is just, patriotic, selfless, equitable, and in accordance with good conscience.

The lawmaker urged the authorities concerned to ensure that those who illegally possessed the oil field are brought to justice through the law enforcement and anticorruption agencies, “as a way of strengthening our institutions,” he said.
