A Milan court on Wednesday, January 15, 2026, formally closed the high-profile fraud investigation against Italian influencer and entrepreneur Chiara Ferragni, effectively ending the criminal proceedings related to accusations of charity fraud.

The case, which centred on misleading claims surrounding the sale of a limited-edition Balocco pandoro Christmas cake in 2022, alleged that Ferragni and her company had falsely implied that proceeds would be donated to children’s hospitals, when in reality only a small fixed amount was contributed.

The decision to close the case came after prosecutors determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed to trial on the most serious charges. While some administrative fines may still apply for misleading advertising, the criminal fraud allegations have been dropped.

The scandal had triggered a massive backlash in late 2022 and 2023:
Major brands including Coca-Cola, Calzedonia, and Dior terminated or suspended sponsorship deals.
Ferragni lost millions of followers on social media.
Her estimated net worth and brand value suffered significant damage.

In a brief statement released after the ruling, Ferragni expressed relief: “Today is a day of justice. I have always acted in good faith and with transparency. This chapter is closed, and I look forward to continuing my work with honesty and dedication.”

The outcome is seen as a partial victory for Ferragni, who maintained her innocence throughout the investigation, though public perception and commercial fallout have left a lasting impact on her once-dominant influence empire.
