Nigerian music continues its global dominance as seven of the country’s biggest stars have secured nominations for the 2026 Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards, the prestigious ceremony celebrating Black music excellence worldwide.

The nominations were announced on Thursday, January 15, 2026, with Nigeria leading the pack across multiple categories, reflecting the massive influence of Afrobeats on the international stage.

Nigerian Nominees at the 2026 MOBO Awards:
Wizkid – Best African Act, Best Male Act, Song of the Year
Davido – Best African Act, Best Male Act, Best Collaboration
Ayra Starr – Best Female Act, Best African Act, Rising Star
Rema – Best African Act, Best Male Act, Song of the Year
Tiwa Savage – Best Female Act, Best African Act
Adekunle Gold – Best African Act, Best Male Act
Shallipopi – Best Newcomer, Song of the Year, Best African Act

The nominations highlight Nigeria’s continued reign in the African Act category, with all seven artists shortlisted, underscoring Afrobeats’ status as a global force.

The MOBO Awards, founded in 1996, celebrate Black music across genres including Afrobeats, R&B, hip-hop, grime, dancehall, and more. This year’s ceremony will take place in London on February 25, 2026.

Fans and industry watchers have hailed the nominations as a testament to Nigeria’s unstoppable wave in global music, with social media buzzing under hashtags like #NaijaToTheWorld, #MOBO2026, and #AfrobeatsTakeover.

Wizkid leads the charge with three nominations, while breakout stars Ayra Starr and Shallipopi are tipped as strong contenders in the female and newcomer categories respectively.

This marks another banner year for Nigerian music following successes at the Grammys, BET Awards, and other global platforms.
