Former APC National Secretary Senator Iyiola Omisore conspicuously boycotted a high-stakes meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu with Osun State governorship aspirants on Wednesday, as seven disqualified contenders withdrew from the December 13 primary and endorsed former Chief of Staff Bola Oyebamiji as the consensus candidate, signaling a push for party unity ahead of the 2026 polls.
The closed-door session at the Presidential Villa, aimed at resolving internal rifts, saw aspirants pledge support for Oyebamiji, but Omisore’s absence described as a deliberate boycott highlighted lingering grievances over his disqualification by the APC screening committee. Sources close to the former Osun Deputy Governor confirmed he was invited but chose not to attend, citing unresolved “embarrassment” from the panel’s decision.
Omisore, who slammed his exclusion as “the biggest joke of the year” on Arise TV Tuesday, accused the process of being rigged to favor Oyebamiji, allegedly under influence from Minister of Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola. “The entire state leadership is against his position, and he started to impose the candidate,” Omisore fumed, distancing Tinubu from the fray while vowing legal action if needed.
The withdrawals, announced post-meeting, involve six other disqualified aspirants: Babatunde Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare. They cited “party unity” and Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda as reasons, with Oyebamiji cleared alongside former NIWA MD Mulikat Abiola emerging as the frontrunner.

Oyebamiji hailed the development as a “family resolution,” promising to “deliver Osun back to APC” after the 2022 loss to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The APC’s screening committee, led by Chief Obinna Uzoh, barred the seven on December 5 for failing to secure nominations from at least five paid-up members per Local Government Area (LGA), per Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution. Osun has 30 LGAs, requiring 150 nominators minimum gaps the committee flagged as “irregularities.”
Disqualified aspirants, who paid dues for 1,660 delegates across 332 wards, decried it as “politically motivated,” with plans for Tinubu’s intervention falling flat for Omisore. Analysts warn the boycott could fracture APC’s Osun chapter, echoing 2022 infighting that cost them the governorship.
APC Osun Chairman Sadiat Oladepo urged calm: “Unity is key to reclaiming Osun.” But Omisore’s camp hints at appeals or a parallel primary, risking a 2026 upset against Adeleke’s Accord Party bid.
As the Southwest battleground heats up, Tinubu’s intervention underscores his grip on APC primaries yet Omisore’s snub tests that hold.
