A Paris court on Monday, January 5, 2026, found ten people guilty of cyber-harassment against France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron for spreading persistent false claims that she is a transgender woman born a man.
The eight men and two women, aged 41 to 65, were convicted for posting “particularly degrading, insulting, and malicious” comments online, including allegations linking the 24-year age gap with President Emmanuel Macron to “paedophilia.” Sentences ranged from mandatory cyberbullying awareness training to eight-month suspended prison terms, with potential fines up to €8,000.
Brigitte Macron did not attend the October 2025 trial but stated in a TF1 interview on Sunday that she pursued the case to “set an example” in combating online harassment, noting the claims had “strongly affected” her and her family.

The conspiracy theory, alleging she was born Jean-Michel Trogneux (her brother’s actual name), originated in far-right and conspiracy circles around 2017 and gained traction internationally, including in U.S. culture wars.
This ruling bolsters the Macrons’ legal efforts, including an ongoing U.S. defamation lawsuit against conservative influencer Candace Owens.
