Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has passionately defended popular TikToker Peller following sharp criticism from rapper Ycee over what the latter described as the rising “olodo uprising” among Nigerian youths.

Ycee, during a recent interview on the Afropolitan podcast, expressed concern about the declining value placed on education and intelligence in Nigeria. He specifically called out Peller as a symbol of young people prioritising outrageous online content for fame rather than pursuing academic excellence.

Peller quickly fired back, labelling Ycee an “illiterate” and a “very anyhow OG.”

In a viral Instagram video, Portable threw his weight behind Peller, accusing Ycee of shifting blame for his career struggles onto the younger generation instead of taking responsibility.
“When you were doing well, you didn’t blame anyone else, so don’t blame another person for your downfall now,” Portable said.

The Zeh Nation frontliner further mocked Ycee’s achievements, claiming that Peller has surpassed him in influence and success despite lacking formal education.
“You insulted Peller for being ‘illiterate’, but you, who claim to be educated, what have you achieved? Peller is bigger than you now. Stop blaming another man for your downfall. You released ‘Jagaban’ when I was in secondary school, and you haven’t had another song as successful since. Now you’re blaming the younger generation. How many houses have you bought with your education?” Portable questioned.

The heated exchange has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many users divided between those who support Ycee’s call for the youths to value education and those who back Portable and Peller’s defence of content creators and street hustlers.

Portable’s intervention has further amplified the discourse on the role of education versus digital entrepreneurship and online fame in Nigeria’s current economy, especially among the youth.

As the conversation continues to trend, industry observers note that the clash highlights the generational and ideological divide within the Nigerian entertainment industry regarding success, education, and relevance in the social media age.
