In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Remo Division of Ogun East Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun as their preferred candidate for the Ogun East Senate seat.
The endorsement, which effectively seals the ticket for the incumbent governor, came during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Sagamu. where Remo APC chieftains openly declared their support for Abiodun and dismissed any notion of fielding former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel or any other aspirant from the zone.
Addressing party faithful and journalists after the meeting, the apex leader of the APC in Remo Division and a close ally of the governor stated: “After wide consultations and deep reflection, we the leaders and stakeholders of APC in Remo have unanimously resolved to support and adopt our performing Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as the sole and preferred candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District in 2027. This is not a contest; it is a consensus. We stand with him 100%.
The decision is seen as a strategic move to consolidate power within the ruling party in Ogun State and avoid a potentially divisive primary battle in Ogun East a zone that has historically produced the state’s governors and senators in rotation.
Governor Abiodun, who is serving his second term as governor, had earlier signaled interest in the Senate seat after his tenure ends in 2027.
Former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, who represented Ogun East in the Senate Currently After Serving as the State governor from 2003-2011 had also been mentioned as a possible contender.

APC State Leadership: Welcomed the development as “a sign of maturity and unity” within the party.
Governor Dapo Abiodun: Yet to make a formal public statement on the endorsement, but sources close to him described it as “a vote of confidence in his leadership and performance.”
Otunba Gbenga Daniel Camp: No official response yet, but allies have downplayed the endorsement, insisting that “the people, not a few leaders, will decide in a primary.”
The development strengthens Governor Abiodun’s position as he eyes a senatorial seat that could position him as one of the most influential politicians in Ogun State post-2027.
