Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is set to forward his list of commissioners to the Rivers State House of Assembly this week, following the truce brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu between the governor and his estranged political godfather and former governor, Nyesom Wike.

The development, which marks a significant de-escalation in the prolonged political crisis in the state, was confirmed by sources close to both the Government House and the Presidency on Monday, February 9, 2026.

The meeting between Governor Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, February 9, 2026. under the direct intervention of President Tinubu. The closed-door session, described by insiders as “frank and productive,” is said to have produced a framework for political reconciliation, including the reconstitution of the state executive council, restoration of full governance functions, and an end to parallel activities by rival factions in the House of Assembly.

Key Outcomes of the Truce (as reported)
Governor Fubara will shortly present a fresh list of commissioners to the Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The pro-Wike faction of the House has agreed to cooperate in the legislative process.
All parties committed to ending public attacks, media wars, and threats of impeachment.
Focus shifts to governance, security, and development in the oil-rich state.

A source close to the governor told DDNewsOnline: “The President made it clear that Rivers cannot continue in this state of dysfunction. Both sides were told to bury the hatchet and allow governance to thrive. The commissioner list is expected this week possibly before the weekend.”

The truce is widely viewed as a major win for President Tinubu’s administration, which has been working to stabilize key political states ahead of 2027.

While both camps have welcomed the détente, some observers remain sceptical, warning that the underlying power struggle may only be paused rather than resolved.
