Arise TV journalist and co-host Rufai Oseni has sparked widespread online reactions after raising two critical questions about the emergency response to the fatal car crash involving British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua on Monday, December 29, 2025.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Oseni highlighted the absence of immediate professional medical aid at the scene along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, where Joshua sustained minor injuries but two of his close associates tragically died.
“Was there no Ambulance/Emergency number to call during the Anthony Joshua incident? Where are the first responders! Na wa?” Oseni wrote, pointing to reports and viral videos showing Joshua being assisted by his security team, bystanders, and later police/FRSC personnel, with no visible ambulance on arrival.
His comments quickly went viral, amassing over 1,000 likes and hundreds of reposts within hours, igniting debates on Nigeria’s emergency services infrastructure.

Many users agreed with Oseni, describing the situation as emblematic of systemic failures: “If this can happen to AJ, imagine ordinary Nigerians,” one replied. Others praised him for spotlighting the issue, with calls for improved funding and response times for agencies like the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Critics, however, accused Oseni of politicising a tragedy, arguing that FRSC arrived within three minutes (as per their statement) and that Joshua’s private security handled initial extraction effectively.
The incident has renewed national discourse on road safety and emergency preparedness, especially on high-risk highways like Lagos-Ibadan.
