The Senate President, Obong Godswill Akpabio has given assurance on the revitalisation of moribund industries in the South South (SS) geopolitical zone of the country, as well as ensuring that the people of the zone feel the impact of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s administration .

Akpabio made the promise to the people of the zone when the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the zone, led by the party’s vice chairman South-south zone, Chief Victor Giadam paid him a courtesy visit, in Abuja, over the weekend.

He commended the zonal arm of the ruling party for their support during the election that saw the emergence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the President of Nigeria.

He however urged them not to relent in their efforts to ensure that they deliver the party come 2027 general elections. He also added that for the fact that the Senate President is from the zone, after about 45 years their illustrious son, late Joseph Wayas left the office of the Senate President, is enough for all the states in the zone to support the party.

Informing them that all the senators from the South-South are in support of Mr President, irrespective of party, gender, religion or tribe, Senator Godswill Akpabio assured them that the Senators are prepared to defend national interest, before thinking of party or any other thing.

He alleged that for the fact that the APC voted massively for Tinubu in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) controlled states showed the world that the APC had something to offer to Nigerians.

Earlier in an address, the leader of the delegation, Chief Victor Giadam commended Mr. President for finding their son worthy of the position of Senate President, even as he charged Akpabio to prove that he is a true and illustrious son of the zone, in discharge of his legislative duties.

Pledging more support to the government of the APC, the leader of the delegation called for collaboration between party members, so as to achieve a common goal of unity in Nigeria.

In another development, a delegation from the National Defense College (NDC), led by the Commandant, Olumuyiwa Olotu also paid a courtesy call to the Senate President recently.

The delegates revealed that they have extended their training research and services to other countries of the world, and informed Senate President of their readiness to conduct research for the National Assembly in any security related matter.

He equally informed that they were training the National Assembly’s Sergeant at Arms.

Presenting their challenges to the Senate President, they said: “We are keen on relocating from our temporary site to the permanent site along the Airport Road Abuja, and what has been hindering us is the fact that our administrative block is yet to be completed since the building was started in 1997. So we require finance to enable us complete the project.

“So we request your intervention in that direction.

In response, Akpabio commended them for their achievements since the college started in 1992, even as he hailed them for having gone international in their services, even as he promised that the 10th Senate would support them in everywhere possible.

Promising to take their matter up to the Chief of Defense Staff, Federal Ministry of Defense, he thanked the armed for minimizing insecurity in the country.
