In a major political development, former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has officially dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.

The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who represented Ogun Central Senatorial District between 2007 and 2011 under the PDP, announced her defection following dissatisfaction with the APC’s internal processes, particularly the recent governorship consensus arrangement.

Reacting to her return, the Ogun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Dr. Abayomi Tella, warmly welcomed Senator Obasanjo back to the party, describing her as a formidable political force.
“While they hunt for small fries, we go for their mother. One woman battalion!!!” Tella declared, praising her experience, influence, and capacity to strengthen the PDP’s chances in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Senator Obasanjo, who had earlier resigned from the APC citing “disrespect” and poor handling of her governorship aspiration, is seen as a significant boost to the PDP’s efforts to regain ground in the state.

Her return to the PDP, the party under which she previously served as a Senator and made notable contributions to legislation and constituency development, is expected to reshape political calculations in Ogun Central and across the state.

To formalise her return, the Ogun State PDP has organised a grand Reunion with Senator Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo and the PDP Family.

Senator Obasanjo is expected to address party faithful and supporters during the reunion, reaffirming her commitment to service, justice, fairness, and the development of Ogun State and Nigeria.

The Ogun PDP believes this development will boost the party’s chances and attract more high-profile members as it prepares for future elections.
