The announcement was made by Tanzania’s Speaker of Parliament, Tulia Ackson, who noted that plans to repatriate his remains and funeral arrangements were underway. However, details about his ailment were not disclosed, according to the Associated Press.

Ndugulile, a former member of parliament for Kigamboni Constituency in Dar es Salaam, held various significant government roles in Tanzania. He served as the health assistant minister from 2017 to 2020 and as the minister for information and communication until 2021.

Known for his dedication to public health, Ndugulile was set to assume his role at the WHO in February 2025, succeeding Dr. Matshidiso Moeti. During his acceptance speech, he pledged to advance health and well-being across the African continent.
