The two individuals who tragically lost their lives in the fatal car crash involving British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua on Monday, December 29, 2025, have been identified as his longtime friends and key team members: Sina Ghami (strength and conditioning coach) and Kevin “Lateef” Ayodele (personal trainer, also known as Latif “Latz” Ayodele).
Joshua, who sustained minor injuries and is stable in hospital, was travelling in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway due to a reported tyre burst. The accident claimed the lives of Ghami and Ayodele on the spot.
Matchroom Boxing and Joshua’s management issued a joint statement: “It is with the deepest and most profound sadness that we confirm the deaths of Sina Ghami and Kevin ‘Lateef’ Ayodele. Both were close friends and integral members of Anthony’s team.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn added: “With the heaviest of hearts. Two great men. Rest in eternal peace Sina and Latz.”

Ghami, co-founder of Evolve Gym in London, was Joshua’s full-time strength and conditioning coach for over a decade. A qualified sports rehabilitator specialising in musculoskeletal injuries, he worked with elite athletes from the NFL, NBA, and Michigan State University. Described as a childhood friend of Joshua, Ghami was a pivotal figure in the boxer’s recovery and performance.
Originally Kevin Ayodele, he converted to Islam in 2012 (describing it as his “biggest blessing”) and went by Abdul Latif. A former semi-professional footballer, Ayodele became Joshua’s dedicated personal trainer and close companion, often seen in the boxer’s corner and daily life. He founded “Healthy Mindset” and was known for his passion for fitness and positive energy.
Hours before the crash, Joshua shared an Instagram story of himself playing table tennis with Ayodele in Lagos.
Tributes from the boxing world, including Chris Eubank Jr. (“genuinely good men”) and Jake Paul (“RIP”), have flooded social media. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu also conveyed personal condolences to Joshua.
