‎The chairperson of the UCH branch, Mrs. Olufunmilola Faminu, said they had no choice but to strike because the government did not meet their demands. These include hiring more nurses, providing better hospital equipment, creating a directorate for nurses at the Ministry of Health, and improving their allowances.

‎She said the nurses are concerned about their patients but asked for their understanding. “We care deeply worried about our patients but this is a fight for better working conditions,” she stated.

‎The strike started at midnight on July 29 and will end on August 5. If nothing changes, the nurses may go on an indefinite strike after giving a 21days notice.
