The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has celebrated a fresh judgement from the Federal High Court in Abuja affirming its control over the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 23, 2026, following the ruling by Justice James Omotosho, the Wike-backed group described the decision as “a landmark victory for the rule of law, party supremacy, and the will of the majority of PDP members.”

The judgement upheld the validity of the NWC led by Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum (widely seen as aligned with Wike) and dismissed challenges from the rival faction loyal to suspended National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu and the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki group.

The court declared that the decisions of the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and the outcomes of the party’s internal processes in 2025 were lawful and binding.

“This judgement has finally laid to rest all distractions and distractions engineered by a few individuals who sought to hijack the party for personal gain. The PDP belongs to its members, not to any individual or clique.

“We call on all genuine members of the PDP across every zone, state, and local government to embrace unity, reconciliation, and collective purpose. The time for division is over. The time to rescue Nigeria in 2027 has come.”

“We extend the hand of fellowship to all who may have been misled or misled themselves. Let us close ranks, forgive past grievances, and work together to build a stronger PDP capable of defeating the APC in 2027.”

The statement urged all PDP members to “put the past behind us” and focus on grassroots mobilisation, candidate selection, and policy development for the next election cycle.

The ruling is expected to further consolidate the Wike faction’s grip on party structures, especially in the South-South and North-Central zones, while the Turaki faction has vowed to appeal the decision.

This latest court verdict adds another layer to the PDP’s protracted leadership crisis that has lingered since 2023, with multiple parallel NWC claims, suspensions, counter-suspensions, and court cases.
