The milestone event which featured soul-stirring hymns, fervent prayers and prophetic messages, was also, a commemoration of the church’s founding in 1925 by Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase, who was a revered pioneering figure in Christianity reawakening in Nigeria, midwifing the Church to its global reckoning with millions of adherents.

Initially founded as a prayer group in Lagos, the Church, known for its distinctive white garments, which they claim symbolizes holiness, is one of Nigeria’s oldest indigenous Christian denomination with deep African roots in its outlook. The centenary celebration is a testament to the church’s enduring legacy of upholding Christian virtues of salvation, healing, worship and community outreach as envisioned by its founders, Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase and Captain Christiana Abiodun Emanuel.

Governor Adeleke, addressing the congregation, praised the church for its contributions to shaping Nigeria’s spiritual and cultural landscape. “The Cherubim and Seraphim Church has been a beacon of faith, uniting communities and fostering hope for a century,” he said.

Key highlights of the centenary celebration were a showcasing of the church’s extensive contributions to community development and notable charitable initiatives. Over the past century, the Church has established several initiatives covering educational institutions, healthcare facilities and social welfare programs across Nigeria. The church’s medical outreach programme which offers free health screenings and support for underprivileged communities, was documented during the event.

Another notable activity was the commissioning of community service projects, including medical outreach programs and educational support initiatives, aimed at uplifting vulnerable populations. As part of efforts to broaden its evangelism and impact, the church also announced plans for centenary revivals, seminars and rallies across Nigeria and the diaspora. This was aptly exemplified by a symbolic “Walk from Ikare to Ago-Ishofin” in Lagos, retracing the missionary path of Orimolade in his inchoate days of evangelism and community engagement.

The unveiling of the centenary logo earlier in the year was a precursor leading to the event, signposting the church’s global reach and its harmonized liturgy as documented in 1999, recognizing the denomination as the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria. Activities planned throughout the year, including novelty football matches, a pictorial exhibition of the church’s history, and a grand finale on September 9, 2025, aim to engage both local and international communities

Church leaders, including His Eminence Prophet Solomon Adegboyega Alao, urged members to uphold the founders’ values of prayer, fasting, and service. “Our foundation is rooted in unshakable faith and service to God and humanity,” said Senior Apostle Tayo Ajose, Secretary-General of the Unification Church, during a press briefing. The church also addressed concerns about the dilution of its practices, calling for a return to authentic spiritual disciplines.

Delivering a lecture on ‘Cherubim and Seraphim at 100: Critical Assessment of its Mandate, Impact, and Future Trajectory’, chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Lagos chapter and Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, Bishop Bishop Stephen Adegbite, felicitated with the Church, urging her to continue in holiness and prophetic witnessing, as well as expunging from its operations any doctrinal practice that may obscure the gospel’s clarity. “The future of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church depends on its faithfulness to its divine mandate while engaging a changing world,” Adegbite noted.
