Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has strongly denied claims that he ever accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of being responsible for the 2006 murder of Chief Funsho Williams, a prominent Lagos governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Fani-Kayode accused Omoyele Sowore, publisher of SaharaReporters and current defendant in a defamation case, of deliberately misquoting and weaponizing remarks he (Fani-Kayode) allegedly made over 11 years ago to bolster Sowore’s defence.

Fani-Kayode wrote:
“I NEVER said Tinubu killed Funso Williams. I challenge Sowore or anyone to produce the tape, transcript or credible publication where I made such a statement. This is a wicked and desperate attempt to drag me into his self-inflicted legal mess.”
He further stated:
“Sowore is facing trial for calling the President a criminal in a post on X. Instead of defending his reckless words, he is now digging up old, distorted stories and trying to rope me in. I have never accused President Tinubu of murder—Funso Williams or otherwise. Let Sowore face his music alone.”

Sowore, who is currently on trial for cyberstalking and defamation over an August 2025 post calling President Tinubu a “criminal,” reportedly referenced Fani-Kayode’s past comments in his defence filings, prompting the former minister’s sharp rebuttal.

“I stand by every word I have ever said about Tinubu’s politics. But murder? Never. Sowore should not use my name to justify his own recklessness. Let him prove his case in court without dragging innocent people into his mess.”

The statement has reignited online debate about the Funsho Williams murder, political mudslinging, and the ongoing defamation trial involving Sowore.
