The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled September 19, 2026, for the conduct of five by-elections across four states.
The affected states are Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta, with voters expected to elect representatives in one federal and four state constituencies.
INEC’s Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Tunde Oketola, confirmed the development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

In Gombe State, the commission will conduct a by-election into the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency.
Bauchi State will have two state constituency elections covering Disina and Sakwa, while voters in Delta State will elect a representative for the Udu State Constituency.
In Kano State, the by-election will hold in the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency.
The September 19 exercise follows vacancies created in the affected constituencies, prompting INEC to commence arrangements for fresh elections.

The commission is expected to provide further details on the electoral timetable, guidelines and other logistical arrangements ahead of the polls.
