Top opposition figures and stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have gathered in Abuja ahead of the party’s crucial 2026 national convention. The high-level meeting brought together prominent political actors including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and other influential figures aligned with the opposition coalition.

Sources indicate that some of these leaders held closed-door consultations before the convention, focusing on aligning positions, resolving internal disagreements, and strengthening unity within the party. The gathering comes at a critical time as the ADC seeks to consolidate its leadership structure and position itself as a major opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The convention, scheduled for today April 14, 2026, is being held at the Rainbow Event Centre in Garki, after earlier venue challenges and political tensions. Key agenda items expected at the convention include leadership affirmation, party restructuring, and adoption of strategic plans, all aimed at strengthening the party’s national presence.

Observers say the presence and involvement of these opposition heavyweights signal a growing coalition effort to challenge the ruling party, making the outcome of the convention highly significant for Nigeria’s political landscape.
