The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into deep mourning following the death of beloved actor Alex Ekubo, who passed away at the age of 40 after a courageous battle with cancer.
His family confirmed the sad news early Friday morning, triggering an outpouring of grief from colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders across Nigeria and the diaspora.

Ekubo, known for his charismatic screen presence and versatility, starred in several hit movies including Weekend Getaway, Lagos Cougars, and Your Excellency. With a career spanning over a decade, he earned multiple nominations at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) and the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), building a strong fan base through both his acting prowess and his public advocacy.
In a statement released by the family, it was revealed that Ekubo died peacefully on Thursday night, surrounded by loved ones after privately managing his health condition for some time.

“Alex fought with courage, grace, and faith. He was a light to many and will be deeply missed,” the family said.
Tributes have continued to pour in on social media. Many of his colleagues described him as a “gentle giant” and a “consummate professional” who brought energy and dedication to every project. The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) described his passing as the loss of “a rare talent and a brother.”
