BRACED Commission Meets in Yenagoa on Tuesday

South-South States regional development body, the BRACED Commission is set to meet in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital city, on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

BRACED an acronym for the Nigerian south-south States of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta.

As envisioned, the BRACED Commission meeting in Yenagoa will likely provide an opportunity for leaders from Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Edo, and Delta States to collaborate on initiatives that could benefit the entire region.

The meeting which will be hosted by the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, will have in attendance the governors of other South-South States including Siminalaye Fubara of Rivers; Umo Bassey Eno of Akwa Ibom, Godwin Obaseki of Edo and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State.

In their last meeting which held in the Edo State government house, Benin City in January 18, 2024, the governors had discussed regional development challenges and resolved to foster improved economic cooperation and integration with a view to achieving sustainable development built on a strong regional economy of beneficial common interest.

In a press statement on Thursday by Ambassador Joe Keshi, the Director General of the Commission, he said that, “the (Yenagoa) meeting is expected to review ongoing efforts to revive the Commission and set agenda for it operations.”

Also, he expressed that “the governors will review recent developments in the region as the Commission is set to organize several sectoral meetings to prepare framework for cooperation among the states in the region.”
