The Kaduna State High Court has rejected a fresh bail application filed by former Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, maintaining that he remains in custody.
In his ruling on Wednesday, the presiding judge held that no new facts or compelling circumstances were presented in the latest application to justify reversing the court’s earlier decision denying bail.

The judge, however, ordered an accelerated hearing of the substantive case to ensure the matter is concluded expeditiously.
This latest ruling marks yet another setback for El-Rufai’s legal team in their repeated attempts to secure his release. The former governor has been in detention for several months following his arraignment on charges bordering on alleged financial misconduct, abuse of office, and misappropriation of public funds during his administration.

El-Rufai’s continued detention has sparked intense political debate, with his supporters describing the case as politically motivated, while critics insist that no one should be above the law.
The development comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the former governor remains a key figure in national politics.
The court is expected to commence full trial soon, and the case continues to attract widespread public and media attention.
