President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the newly completed two main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), linking Ring Road I (Gudu Cemetery) to Ring Road II (Kabusha Junction), describing the project as “the artery of economic growth” that will unlock jobs, reduce traffic gridlock, and cut the cost of doing business in the Federal Capital Territory.

The President, who was represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the event held at the OSEX–Wasa junction, said the infrastructure goes beyond asphalt and concrete.
“When we took the oath of office, we didn’t promise shortcuts. We promised hard work… hope that you can see, hope that you can feel, and hope that you can drive on,” Tinubu stated.

He recalled earlier phases of the expressway commissioned since 2024 and stressed that his administration does not abandon projects. “We finish what we start,” he said, commending FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for keeping contractors on their toes and delivering results on time.

The President highlighted that the new stretch linking Apo District to Wasa will ease traffic, save fuel and man-hours, and open up underserved areas for development. He reassured Nigerians of his administration’s broad commitment to infrastructure development across the federation.

In his remarks, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike credited the timely completion of the project to the administration’s resolve and the commitment of CGC Nigeria Limited. He revealed that he had personally inspected the site more than ten times to ensure the contractor met the agreed schedule.

Wike framed the road’s completion as part of the Tinubu administration’s philosophy of continuity. “We did say every project we inherited, we are going to continue with it and finish it. That’s the essence of leadership,” he said.

He noted that roughly 80 percent of projects completed by the FCT Administration since 2023 were inherited from previous administrations.

FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the OSEX carriageways as a strategic investment that will enhance connectivity, stimulate economic activity, and support sustainable growth in the nation’s capital. She commended Wike’s resilience and commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure.
