The directive was contained in a circular issued by the State Ministry of Education on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, and signed by Enodolomwanyi Otamere on behalf of the Permanent Secretary.
According to the circular, the closure follows a security advisory from the Department of State Services (DSS) warning of planned attacks targeting school children in the Akoko-Edo axis.

The closure came barely hours after Governor Okpebholo, while defending President Bola Tinubu’s administration, blamed opposition politicians for the rising insecurity in the country.
Speaking earlier, Okpebholo alleged that opposition elements were behind the spate of kidnappings to undermine the federal government.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. They can even kidnap all of us… Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern?” he said.
