The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suffered fresh setbacks in the House of Representatives as three members formally defected to opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The notices of defection were read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during Wednesday’s plenary session.

Hon. Rabilu Bala, representing Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, defected from the APC to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Hon. Abubakar Zango, who represents Yola North/Yola South/Gire Federal Constituency in Adamawa State, moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Similarly, Hon. Abdullahi El-Rasheed, representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency in Gombe State, also joined the ADC.
The lower chamber has witnessed a wave of defections since the beginning of the year as politicians reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.

On Tuesday, eight lawmakers defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), while three others moved from the APC to the PDP and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The latest defections from the APC have further highlighted growing internal dissatisfaction within the ruling party and the increasing momentum of opposition realignment across the country.
