Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday, January 5, 2026, announced a significant cabinet reshuffle, relieving the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo, of her appointment with immediate effect and making several new appointments and redeployments.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor expressed gratitude to Prof. Adeyemo for her dedicated service and contributions to the administration.

Governor Makinde appointed Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde, a renowned economist from the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan, as the new Secretary to the State Government.

Prof. Babatunde previously served as Chief Economic Adviser during Makinde’s first term and later as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning. An alumnus of the University of Ibadan, where he earned his B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD in Economics (awarded in 2007), he joined the university’s Department of Economics as an Assistant Lecturer in 2006 and rose to full Professor.

His accolades include being the Overall Best Graduating Student in his Master’s programme, receiving the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Collaborative PhD Scholarship, and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Doctoral Internship Visiting Scholar Support Award in Geneva in 2005.

Babatunde has extensive international and consulting experience, including directorship roles at the United Nations African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) in Dakar, Senegal, and leading economic strategy documents for Niger State.

Other key changes in the reshuffle include: Redeployment of Barrister Temilolu Seun Ashamu from Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources to Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.
Nomination of Ademola Aderinto, Senior Special Assistant on Public Works, as Commissioner-designate, to be screened and confirmed by the Oyo State House of Assembly.
Appointment of Honourable Abiodun Adedoja as Special Adviser on Energy Security.
Appointment of Kolawole Elijah Akanmu as Senior Special Assistant on Budget and Economic Planning.

Governor Makinde stated that the reshuffle is aimed at injecting fresh vigour into governance and enhancing service delivery in line with his administration’s sustainable development agenda.

The new appointments take immediate effect.
