In keeping with the policy of ensuring that the country operates the January to December budget cycle, the House of Representatives has concluded plans to pass the 2023 Budget next week.
This was disclosed by the Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila during plenary on Thursday in Abuja.
The Speaker had also informed his colleagues that they had initially planned to go on recess on Thursday, but for some other urgent legislative matters that came up.
Earlier during plenary, a motion was moved by Hon. Makwe Livinus Makwe on the need to investigate the brutal killing of Mr. Ejike Egwu and others in Amaeze Community of Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The lawmaker noted that on 28th Nov.2022 about eight suspected bandits armed with Ak-47 rifles invaded the Ngada Amaeze community in Ishiaga, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, shooting and killing innocent farmers between the hours of 2 and 2;30 p.m. which led to the death of Mr. Egwu at the spot while several others escaped with severe injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Consequently, the House urged the Chief of Army Staff, the Inspector General of Police, and the Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to immediately set up a joint patrol team to comb the farmland and forests to root out bandits, terrorists and all unauthorized armed men killing farmers in Amaeze Community in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The House also urged the Chief of Army Staff to set up a military checkpoint at Amaeze-expressway in the area while mandating the Committee on Police Affairs, Army, and interior to ensure strict compliance.
