Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed strong confidence in securing the vice-presidential ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the move will position Kano State to eventually produce a president of Nigeria in the near future.
“By God’s grace, the next election will be unlike anything that has ever happened in our state and country, especially if I secure the ticket and my name is on the ballot,” Kwankwaso told Premier Radio.

He added, “Since the First Republic, despite our struggles and political wisdom, Kano has never produced a vice president. This is both disappointing and deeply saddening, but by God’s grace, it will be corrected. Kano State will rightfully secure this position, which will open the door for our state to eventually produce the president of this country.”

Kwankwaso recently dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the NDC. He warned that people from the South who understand the current political dynamics are already registering with the party, urging the North, particularly the North-West, to be strategic in their decisions.
“People from the south who understand what is happening are already registering with our party. The north, especially the north-west, must be careful and ensure they do what is right so they do not make a decision they will deeply regret,” he said.

If Kwankwaso secures the vice-presidential slot in the NDC, he is widely expected to partner with the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in what could form a formidable opposition ticket for the 2027 election.

The development signals ongoing realignments within the opposition as major political actors position themselves ahead of the next general elections.
